Just a driver’s license is not enough. To be allowed to drive before you are 18 years old, you will need a ‘begeleiderspas’ (mentor pass). This pass states the names of the mentors you have chosen to accompany you whilst driving. You can request such a pass on the 2toDrive website.
Mentors need to be at least 27 years old and need to have had their driver’s license for at least 5 years.
In short, if you are younger than 18, you are only allowed to drive under 3 conditions; You need your own driver’s license, a mentor pass and you need your mentor to be in the car with you.
Once you are 18 years old, you will no longer need to fulfill these conditions as you will have a regular driver’s license.
